Packers Postseason Breakdown 1.0

The game was tough and hard fought. It was without a doubt the best game of the week. As the Eagles were driving to take the lead in the last couple minutes of the game, Michael Vick through up a pass into the endzone for his receiver, Reily Cooper. Unfortunately for Phili, Cooper was not the man that came down with the ball. Defensive back Tramon Williams of the Packers leaped up and snatched the ball right before it was going to land in Cooper's hands, sealing the victory for his Green Bay Packers.

The Packers defense played extremely well against the most athletic player in the NFL, Michael Vick. Numerous blitzes and strategic coverage helped give the Packers a large advantage that no team was able to have all season against Vick and the speedy Eagles offense. Aaron Rodgers played efficient football and the play calling was done very well, having an equal balance of passing and running.

James Starks, rookie running back of the Packers, had a tremendous game as he has finally emerged as the number one guy for the Packers in the running game. This greatly helps the Packers offense as they have only been a passing team all season, making them a one-dimensional offense. With a running game now, the Packers are without a doubt one of the best offenses in the league and could be a serious competitor for the NFC Championship.

Being the lowest seed in the NFC, the Packers will play the number one Falcons at the Georgia Dome, arguably the hardest place to play in the NFL. The Packers played the Falcons there earlier this season in a close game in which Atlanta kicked a field goal as time expired to win it. I think that this game will be very close and could easily go either way. With the Packers playing so well though, I think they win this one on a game ending drive behind the arm of Aaron Rodgers.

Packers End of Regular Season Breakdown

With the help of the Eagles and Giants struggling, the Packers have made the playoffs, but truthfully, it was not the way they wanted to get in. They played their last three games with excellence as each one was a must win in order to get into the playoffs. They played the Giants, who were also competing for a playoff spot, and trounced them in a 45-17 win at Lambeau Field. They then went on to beat the divisional rival Bears in a close game at home, which clinched the playoff spot.

The Packers underwent numerous changes throughout the season at the running back position. Ryan Grant, the 1,000+ yard rusher for the past three years, had a season ending injury on the very first game of the season. The linebacker core and defensive line also went through major changes as injuries plagued the team all season. Despite all these injuries, the Packers had one of the best defenses this season and they slowly increased the running plays towards the end of the year.

The Packers will be facing the Eagles in the Wild-Card Playoff round next weak. The two teams played on opening day in a game that the Packers won somewhat easily, but the two teams have changed drastically since then, especially the Eagles at the quarterback position. I see the Eagles putting up a good fight at home, but I like the Packers in a close game.
